Inactive Well Management

Inactive Well Management | Tervita

Close to 20 percent of all wells in Alberta may be considered inactive at any given time, representing a growing issue for producers who must ensure their discontinued or abandoned well inventories are managed to meet regulatory timelines.

In Alberta, wells inactive for 12 months or more must be discontinued or abandoned and surface equipment must be removed within 10 years of wellhead surface abandonment. Records of cleanup activities must also be retained and may be audited.
