Moving Reclamation Forward

Tervita is a partner in the groundbreaking FORWARD III research effort – a five-year oil sands research project aiming to establish tools and practices for reclaiming disturbed mine areas into small functioning watersheds in Canada's Boreal Forest.

Participants include university faculty and graduate students from across Canada who are working with oil sands leaders Suncor and CNRL, as well as First Nations communities and the provincial and federal governments.  Tervita is a partner in developing and improving state-of-the-art modeling programs capable of predicting long-term water quality and quantity recovery rates as vegetation is established and grows on a reclaimed site.

The research is currently being conducted at a CNRL site and on Suncor's first reclaimed tailings pond.
