Position Summary

 

Tervita is currently hiring Field Radiation Technician(s) that will be based out of Standard, Alberta.  The Field Radiation Technician is a mid level position and will be responsible for assisting clients with their Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) Waste Management projects and assisting in decontamination and disposal projects where possible.  It is expected that the majority of work will be completed at generators sites throughout Western Canada.

 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Provide technical assistance for clients to understand the Canadian NORM Guidelines
  • Provide technical assistance to all aspects of NORM waste handling and disposal issues
  • Design and Implement Safe Work Practices for handling NORM contaminated waste at generator facilities
  • Provide NORM training services
  • Communicate and supervise NORM contamination control procedures
  • Complete NORM Screening and Radiation Survey’s
  • Provide NORM remediation and NORM sampling services
  • Pick up and transport NORM impacted materials
  • Complete Daily Operating Reports
  • Prepare, present, and document safety meetings
  • Complete Waste Manifest’s
  • Identify customer concerns in a polite and efficient manner, and relay information to appropriate personnel
  • Provide cost estimating assistance to marketing personnel
  • Market Tervita's products and services
  • Uphold and model company values and principles
  • In-depth knowledge of Tervita’s facility and field based operations and systems, cost structure and of the NORM and oilfield waste regulatory environment
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Successful Candidate Requirements:

 

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in a field related to Oil and Gas Production, Environmental Sciences or a related field of study
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a good driving record
  • Preference will be given to those candidates who have a working knowledge of NORM or radiation experience
  • Previous experience and knowledge of the oil and gas sector is a requirement as well as waste management experience and tickets in WHMIS, TDG Clear Language, Standard First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive, Confined Space Entry and NORM Safety Training
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Consistent approach to working with others, an ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers
  • Strong project management aptitude, interpersonal flexibility, the ability to prioritize work and a strict adherence to Safety and Safe Work practices 
  • Strong organizational skill and the ability to multitask will also be an asset
